More info about Community Service in general

Community service work sometimes called Public service work or Court ordered community service is an alternate sentencing option for judges, courts and probation officers in many areas. Community service hours may also be assigned in place of a fine in some courts and some Judges will assign community service hours to certain defendants who have demonstrated the inability to pay their court fees.

Community service can also be done as a condition of probation and in many cases community service is assigned and monitored by the probation dept. and becomes a part of the defendants probation requirements. If a defendant refuses to do community service or does not get their assigned community service hours completed on time, probation may be revoked.

Community service basically means doing something for the community which helps the community in which the person lives. Community service is generally viewed as an alternative to jail time or other forms of punishment by the court. Some courts also consider community service as a form of restitution

Community service may also be required before graduation in some schools. Some high schools may require a certain number of community service hours be completed each year during high school and still others require a set amount of community service hours to be completed before graduation.

Community service usually needs to be completed at a non-profit organization. Requirements can vary greatly so if you are required to do community service you should check to be sure the organization you are working with will be accepted for your required Community Service hours. Some Courts and or schools will not allow community service hours at a church so be sure to check this before you begin.
